Reid Weber provides his thoughts on his final season of cross country at Northern High School. Throughout his years at Northern, Reid has become an accomplished long distance runner for the Polar Bears, after qualifying for states twice, and hopes to continue his success during the 2020 season.
What were your goals for yourself this season? For the team?
"My goals for the season [personally] were to make states again and to consistently perform well throughout the season. The team goals were to end above .500 and to stay healthy so that we could finish our season better than we started it.”
How is this season different from past seasons regarding COVID-19?
“This season has been different in many ways. For instance, the team or I have not been able to run any big invitationals. With colleges keeping a tight-knit circle, a lot of the invitationals that happened in the past are not able to happen this year.”
What are some things that you took for granted that you cannot have this season?
"What the team and I took for granted during the past seasons was the ability to interact with other teams from the district. We usually race against [other teams] multiple times in a season, and because we don’t have that we are unable to connect with them during meets.”
What makes this team special?
“What makes this team special is our ability to work hard but also to have fun before or after practice. Running takes a lot out of you and it is great when it’s not serious all the time.”
How does the team and yourself look for districts?
“The team looks great for districts. We have a lot of guys who have trained really hard and are waiting for a time to really have a good race. I am confident that my teammates will place better than they did last year and hopefully establish a couple of personal bests.”
