Bears Hope to Surpass Previous Success

Last season, the Northern Boys Varsity Soccer team unexpectedly reached the District III final, thus prompting PennLive to dub their success a “Cinderella story” season, but it is evident that the boys soccer team is striving to surpass their success in the 2020 season. The Polar Bears have retained a large number of their key players from last season, including ten seniors, that have already made a substantial impact this season. Although all ten seniors contribute as leaders on the team, the two players who were designated as captains this season are Spencer Siverling and Connor Swope. The leadership and commitment of the upperclassmen and the whole team has been apparent throughout the beginning of the season. When asked to describe the team this season, Ashton Davies, a senior midfielder, responded that “we are attacking minded while being able to maintain a solid defense.” Davies’ description of the team can be confirmed through the seventy goals that the Polar Bears have scored this season and the mere five goals that they have conceded. Within their division, Northern currently stands at 11-0, and with a 2-1 win over Boiling Springs on October 22, the Polar Bears secured the Colonial Division title. Although they have not faced any major threats in their division, the team has played more competitive teams outside of their division, such as Hershey (1-1 tie), Mechanicsburg, and Cedar Cliff (3-2 win), that reflect

the skill of teams that the Polar Bears will face in district play. As October comes to an end, the Northern Boys Varsity Soccer team prepares to eclipse their success from last year in order to make the most of this unique season.

The Polar Bears have been able to showcase their attacking ability this season as they continue their successful regular season campaign. Leading the team in goals is Shep Soisson with 18 goals and 7 assists. Other major contributors within Northern’s attack are Ashton Davies (11 goals and 9 assists), Maddox Davies (4 goals and 9 assists), Connor Swope, and Spencer Siverling. Also, Soisson and Swope are close to reaching 100 career points this season, which is a notable achievement for players. As the Polar Bears move into district three play, their attacking mindset will aid them in surpassing their opponents, which will hopefully lead to a district three championship for this senior led team.
